What type of fence is right for me?
It depends on what you’re trying to achieve. Feather edge fence panels are the most popular choice for full privacy and security around a domestic boundary. Tongue and groove panels suit a more contemporary look. If you need extra height with a softer feel, trellis panels can sit on top of a standard panel. Can I install a fence myself?
A standard fence with concrete posts can be a manageable DIY project for someone confident with basic tools, but post setting is heavy work and mistakes are hard to undo. For longer runs, sloping ground, or larger gates, most people find it easier to use a professional fence installer. We supply the materials either way.
How long does a concrete post and timber panel fence last?
When installed properly with concrete posts and gravel boards, a timber fence can last 15 to 20 years or more, depending on the timber quality, weather exposure and maintenance. Using gravel boards at the base of each panel is one of the simplest ways to extend the life of the fence by keeping the timber clear of the ground.
How tall can my garden fence be?
In England, fences up to 2 metres are usually allowed along a back or side boundary without planning permission. Fences next to a road or footpath are limited to 1 metre. Different rules can apply in conservation areas, on listed buildings, or where an Article 4 Direction is in place. Always check with your local planning authority before starting work.
